Mature Students Leadership Award

Are you a mature student that is involved in the university or community? Do you know a mature student that is involved in the university or community? If yes, then nominate yourself or someone else for the brand new Mature Students Leadership Award!

This award was created in collaboration by the U of T Mature Students Association (MatSA) and the Woodsworth College Students Association (WCSA). In the 2010/2011 academic year, it is fully funded by WCSA.
Award Details

There is one award of $250 for a mature student who has demonstrated a commitment to leadership at U of T or in the community.
Eligibility

Any mature or non-traditional undergraduate student that will have completed at least two credits towards their undergraduate degree by April 2010. Preference is given to Woodsworth College Students.

A mature student is defined as one who identifies with at least one of the following descriptions:

  • Individual took at least two years away from formal education after high school
  • Individual has family responsibilities that the typical undergraduate doesn’t have, such as children, a spouse, or ailing parents to care for
  • Individual was 21 years old or older when he/she began at the University of Toronto
  • Individual was in the workforce for several years before deciding to come back to university
  • Individual participated in the Academic Bridging Program at Woodsworth College
  • Individual participated in the Transitional Year Program

Criteria

EITHER

Write a short, 500-word statement that focuses on your contributions to the university and/or to the wider community and about your experiences coming to U of T as a mature student.

OR

Write a short, 500-word statement about the person that you would like to nominate. The essay should focus on the student’s contributions to the university and/or the wider community, and about the student’s experience coming to U of T as a mature student.

AND

The application should also include the following information about the nominee:

  • Full name
  • Student number
  • College
  • Number of credits earned as of April 2011
  • Full name of nominator (if applicable)
  • Email address of nominee/applicant (and nominator if applicable)
  • Phone number of nominee/applicant (and nominator if applicable)

Deadline

All applications must be submitted by email to mature@mywcsa.com by April 26, 2011.

Presentation of Awards

The award will be presented to the successful applicant at the WCSA and MatSA Mature Students’ Year End Banquet on April 30, 2011. The successful applicant will be contacted on April 27, 2011.

Note: Successful applicants must respond to our April 27 contact by April 28.
