The Mature Students’ Association (MatSA) at U of T was founded in August 2008 by mature undergraduate students Christine Mitchell and Debbie Molnar.
Christine and Debbie recognized a need for an association that recognized the diversity behind the label “mature student.” Mature students at the U of Tare a diverse group of people: they may study part time or full time, they are single, married, divorced, they often work, some are parents, they range in ages from 25 to 85 and beyond, they are sexually diverse, and they have varying ethnic and religious backgrounds.
We welcome all U of T students, staff, and faculty to get involved with MatSA.
Since 2008, MatSA has held over 15 social and educational events, created the Mature Students’ Leadership Award with WCSA, carried the torch with WCSA and UTSU to make the Mature Students’ Weekend a successful annual event (and increased attendance by 150%), and provided mature students with opportunities to meet each other and get involved on campus.
For the first time during the 2010/2011 school year, MatSA will be lead by a formal executive team which was elected by the membership in March 2010.
The MatSA team looks forward to meeting you at our future events!
